Say animation and children movies- enters Disney.
While no other production house may take Disney's place for what it's been since ever,  and while I enjoy watching amazing Disney movies and cartoons, I somehow feel that in India the right kind of animated kids movies are underrated. Movies, which are for kids yet deliver a strong message or a thought, aren't complex and teach some insightful lessons making a child's imagination sore high. To cover that all, comes Studio Ghibli for you.

One of the favorite bits of my precious childhood memories is growing up watching the movies by Studio Ghibli that I'd proclaim with rejoice. The movies so surreal, that each of them left me speechless with their compelling story-lines and the cuteness of every character. Simple plots crafted with perfection with little details that'd leave you with a smile on the lips and bewildering about how could it be so perfect. You would find every movie to be the best of all, until you see the next one.

To all those who don't know about Studio Ghibli, I must say, you know nothing about the great anime movies. Studio Ghibli is an animation film studio from Tokyo, Japan. It is famously known for its anime feature films, but like I mentioned that I doubt people in India know much about it. Each story is based on a fantasy or driven by a real life event with a hint of progressive thinking and some elements that'd make you think and wonder. The silent moments speak volume. The emotions calm your senses. All the plots, incidents, events woven carefully to give a pleasant experience. I call them the movies with soul.
I did try searching if people have written about this amazing production house in India already, but couldn't find much that'd justify the greatness of such amazing production house. Hence in this blog, I am putting down some of the best movies out of all by Studio Ghibli to make you feel what you've been missing in life.

1- Grave of the Fireflies- An animated war drama (1988)

This is one of the finest movies and the very first movie which made me realize that animated movies could be full of drama & seriousness rather than just being funny. It tells a story of two siblings and their hardship to survive through the period of World War II, in the city of Kobe in Japan. Their innocence, struggle, dismay, you'd feel all of it throughout the movie and your heart will reach out to the little girl, the younger sibling, satsuko. Truly one of the greatest movies set on the background of world war II with heart-wrenching emotions.

2- The Secret world of Arrietty- An animated Fantasy Movie (2010)
 
A family of super small people who take food from the houses of Humans and call it borrowing while the Humans aren't aware of the secret world of these tiny people who live right under their houses. The movie features Arrietty, one of the tiny wonders who while borrowing a sugar cube from a house, caught seen by a human, a nice boy. The boy eventually helps her and her family escape from the fellow human beings trap.

3- Ponyo- An animated Fantasy Movie (2008)

Ponyo is a story of the friendship between a little boy and a tiny pretty goldfish, and his struggle to safeguard his little fish friend. Sounds cute enough already, eh? Wait-for-it. The goldfish grows legs and convert into a pretty little girl. And then the duo embarks on an adventurous journey on their magically enlarged toy boat.
You should watch!

4- My Neighbor Totoro- An animated Fantasy Movie (1998)
 
Okay. This I'm sure people would know about. Because of the popular merchandises inspired by the movie character Totoro that gradually became a cultural icon. It features the story of two young sisters and their imaginary friend Totoro. Imaginary or not? you should watch it yourself. One of the super beautiful and cutest movies ever.
Fact- people do have theories that the movie resembles a real life event.

5- Only Yesterday- An animated Fantasy Movie (1991)
 
A story narrated by a young lady of her precious childhood & sweet memories and how she ends up choosing a countryside life over her luxurious city life. This would surely hit hard on your nostalgia button as the movie not just targets the younger audience but slightly larger audience including adults.


6- Kiki's Delivery Service- An animated Fantasy Movie (1989)

A story about a girl, kiki, who delivers parcels from town to town on her magic broomstick and that's how she earns her livelihood. Oh, and she has a cute talking cat. Awesome enough that the movie was produced in collaboration with Disney.

7- From Up on Poppy Hill- An animated Fantasy Movie (2011)

A teenage boy and girl trying to make their own place in school, become friends, and take up the deed which is, saving their school from being demolished by cleaning up the school's club house and make it worth to be retained.

8- Whisper of the Heart- An animated romantic drama Movie (1995)

A boy. A girl. One cycle. Fate. Ambitions.

An unusual well-crafted love story of teenagers. #NuffSaid

9- Castle in the Sky- An animated fantasy movie (1986)

An adventurous story of a boy and girl secretly trying to create some kind of magic crystal, and while doing so, also locating a mythical castle. A castle that floats and is hidden somewhere in the sky.

10- Spirited Away- An animated Fantasy Movie (2001)
 
Recognize the spirit's face? It's all over in the market or may be you've seen it in a couple of videos representing the look of the ghosts and spirits. Anyways, the movie features a story of a 10 year old who loses her parents in the middle of nowhere in a jungle and how she finds them by going through some really unusual creepy situations.
Whoa, she is brave, I thought while watching it.

11- When Marnie was there- An animated Fantasy Movie (2014)

This is a ghastly one. The movie features a life changing trip of an adopted girl, Anna, who meets and befriends a lone girl Marnie who's been living in a vacated mansion right across the river which people believe is haunted. Soon enough they become really good friends and with the help of Marnie, Anne unfolds the truth about her family.

12- Howl's Moving Castle-An animated Fantasy Movie (2004)
 
That is an interesting movie all the boys would like. It has fantasy, technology, war, magic everything rolled into one movie. It promotes the message of antiwar, the importance of freedom and the destructive effects of war in the society and its people.

That's all guys! There are many more movies by Studio Ghibli, but these all tops the chart for me. You know, most of the movies have one thing in common. That is, having a cat. It's been more than 8 years since I promised myself to pay a visit to the city of Amritsar. I always dreamt of taking a solo trip to Amritsar, but this one turned out much better with a companion who made it all possible. And in all those years, the excuses or reasons that didn't let me go there were bygone. We took the trip #LikeABoss, like an Instagram quote i.e. "Just pack your bag and leave". We shook our head at 7 in the evening, packed our bags, hailed for a bus and next morning we were there.
Although, it wasn't an easy-made trip. We reached at ISBT Kashmere Gate bus station around 9pm only to find out that everything was booked already. We [two girls] sitting with our hopes held tight started thinking whether to go back and re-plan this again for a later date. It was so disappointing at the moment as like once again, I was failing to get to see the city. But the heart wants what it want. So we sat in silence for a little longer, took a deep breath and started assessing the alternatives. We checked different routes like via Chandigarh etc. but nothing worked out. Soon it was past 11 of a cold night of December.
Finally we decided to try out our luck at Old Delhi Railway station before we were headed back home. After checking a few bus service desks, we got our tickets and we couldn't believe.
We left the city in much excitement on a fun bus ride.
It was cold and it rained all night and we were in the bus having goosebumps. My excitement couldn't be explained hence I couldn't sleep the whole night.It was like one of those things in your life that you've always wanted and once you get it in an unexpected way; the happiness is sheer priceless.

We reached Amritsar around 6ish in the morning. We hailed a rikshaw and went straight to Golden Temple.

With that 1D trip, we covered> The Golden Temple (at morning) > Breakfast at Brother's Dhaba>  Jalianwala Bagh > Lunch at Kesar Da Dhaba> a little walk around Hathi gate> Vagha Border> The Golden Temple (at night).

Stay:
We didn't book a hotel. We stayed at the Golden Temple Sarai (Guru Arjan Dev Nivas). And believe me, it was the wisest decision we made than booking a hotel. It's safe for girls, and that's important to know :) We inquired about the proceeding and they offered some delicious tea first with some snacks. Broiling in a huge kadhai at a distance, people all kind were enjoying their sips out of tea bowls that winter morning. We cleaned our cups ourselves (yes you must, especially when you see everyone there helping you with everything, that's the least you could do to help them back). Later, we got a token at the reception to stay in the Sarai. It's free of cost. We went up on the first floor, where women could stay. It's a shared place with lockers where you can keep you belongings locked till whenever. Common Washrooms, basins and toilets; separate for women and kids, and men. I couldn't help but wonder, this was the first time I saw a Sarai, that puts no cost at you, are so clean. People were so thoughtful that they made sure they left it clean after using even the kids weren't ignorant.
So if it's only travel you want and not comfortable beds and privacy, stay here without having a second thought. Spending the night could be cumbersome as there are halls, varandahs and passage & you'd get to sleep wherever you can find the place to.


Explore 
The Golden Temple
With a lot of history and divinity, Shri Harmandir Sahib stands bright and modest amidst the pool of Nector. Taking a walk around the temple and finally visiting the main temple overwhelmed us with joy and pride. There's lot to add which I would cover in a different blog post.
Tip: If possible, do try visiting the place both in morning and evening and you'll be amused by its mesmerizing beauty. (About 150mts far from the sarai)

Jalianwala  Bagh
The misty wind embraced us the very moment we entered in the Jalianwala Bagh through the alley from where Dyer's troop entered & killed thousands of defenseless people almost a century back. Goosebumps. A memorial of national importance ever since the dreadful Amritsar Massacre occurred in 1919,  the Bagh also homes a museum that speaks of its history, the innocent martyrs and how the unfortunate event played an important role in India's struggle for freedom that should be enough to bring tears in your eyes and put your blood on boil. A well on the left, where people jumped in out of panic and 'the Wall' with the marks of gun shots still visible are there too echoing the deafening silence persisting since ages.

Walking around the City
You can still buy in an hour our of your 1D trip to walk around the city and explore, provided you're always on the go. Shop. Eat. Experience. Learn.

Wagha Border
About 30 kms from Amritsar and 20kms from Lahor is the border of Wagha. You can easily reach there via shared cabs available outside the JalianWala Bhagh. Make sure, you leave before 2pm anyhow cause you don't want to miss the Wagha Border ceremony scheduled everyday @4pm in winter and @4:30pm in summer). It would cost you around INR 100-200 per person (to and fro) and will take about 2 hours to take you there. It will leave you about 500-600 mts before the actual destination. From there you can take a rickshaw or walk your way through. The cab would wait for you at the same spot till you'd be back.
The ceremony takes place every evening, in which soldiers from India and Pakistan meet and greet each other and perform the usual ceremonial activities. When the gate finally opens, that moment is enough to send a chill under one's spine. (We Indians know how it feels, right?)
Do Not carry bags, heavy wallets, power banks or any such electronic devices. Only money, phones and cameras are allowed. There are two strict security checks. Suggest you inquire about it from different sources as well.

Food
About a km away from the sarai, Brother's Dhaba or Bharawan da Dhaba situated next to each other, pick any cause you won't regret. The food is inexplicably delicious across the city. Food so good and rich, I confess that I had the best north Indian food ever in Amritsar. However, keep a hygiene check while eating out at the street.
Must visit- Kesar Da Dhaba. While usual options for main course are good to satiate your hunger with oodles of Desi Ghee, don't miss trying their Rice Phirni and a humongous glass of Lassi (which you may want to share it with 1-2 people :D). We two were crazy enough to order two glasses and we couldn't finish.
Near Bangla Sahib, on the temple road and opposite Jalianwala Bagh, you would also find street vendors selling Daal Pakoda dipped in Kanji. That was quite something to experiment with my taste buds and it wasn't bad, I must say. Do try.

There are many more places in and around the city which you just can't cover in just one day, but we did pretty well :) (from 6am-9pm)

Do note, Amritsar is a pretty, colorful city with cultural and traditional values like any other city in India. A city so humble that welcomes everyone with a warm heart. Hence a sincere request to every new person entering to the city to be mindful of their behavior and appearance to avoid unnecessary attention and make the most out of your trip.

So you are in your 30's and till now you were fine being single with no notion to settle down like ever?Then comes a day when a girl just happens to you out of nowhere. Yes, you were not looking for a relationship but she turned your world upside down and you are just loving it. Though, you wonder how did it happen especially when you were enjoying your single-hood, busy buying crazy stuffs like that telescope on auction or n number of headphones for no reason, spending money with no thoughts of saving any for future and converting your room in a small zoo by having variety of pets like dogs, aquarium and a parrot. And yes, not ready to change yourself for anybody.
But now, you want to change yourself. You are planning to expand your house. Looking at couples makes you want to reach her and claim her yours. And kids, Oh my god, you are witnessing too much cuteness showering from those little creatures playing in a nearby park. Settling down which was never on your list, seemingly you are ready for it.Well not to forget, lately you have been day-dreaming of having a baby girl with the girl you're in love with.
Hang on! Are you really sure that she is the one or you are just imprisoned of an emotional breakthrough. Changing yourself seems fine to you now, but don't rush to settle down before you do a little fact-check and these reasons may fall true for you.

• Marry her cause she isn't a goddess, she is a diva who lives on her own terms and respects yours too. Comfort zone or space bubble you both have talked it through and are ready to offer unasked space to each other.
• Marry her cause she is philosophically challenged and made of tough reality. "Never change yourself for anybody", seems no true to you guys anymore. Change is inevitable. You are changing yourself a bit and she too compromises whenever need be.
• Marry her if she is totally okay with you falling asleep while your are on Skype with her. How many hours? Doesn't really count. She is happy to be with you all the while you are sleeping and may eventually fall asleep too.
• Marry her if she is the one who asks you to checkout random girls in a mall. She pinches you and point out the girls who ogle at you and giggle. You know that moment you fall for her all over again.

It was a bright sunny day of March. To reach the destination, I took varied means of transportation that comprised, changing a bus, two autos, and a strode to be taken in the end. After boarding off the second auto, I had to walk down a long road. Unfortunately, the auto dropped me at a wrong place saying, "bas yaha se seedha nikal jaao madam, aaram se pahunch jaaoge". But, after taking few steps I was sure that I was lost, I dint find any other transportation available. Anyway I kept marching ahead on the road. Suddenly, close to a widespread construction site beside the lone road, I saw a bunch of men standing. As I neared, I found them grinning and staring at me. They must be 7 or 8, I remember. I looked around to the farthest point my eyes could reach and found nothing, no other human, or any vehicle.
"What if, they do something to me? I can't do anything in spite of being bold. Perhaps a bleak shout in that isolated area." The thought seized me. Out of my surprise, my heart throbbed for a while. With that growing sense of fear, I walked down the road. Anyhow I reached to the institute, gave my entrance test and came back home.
Though nothing bad happened, but at times, just a thought of it scares me for moments. I never found myself so vulnerable or helpless in my whole life. Even all the money I had couldn't have saved me, if...something wrong had happened.

PS: For the first time in my life, I literally felt, to be a woman is a curse.

It's Hindi Diwas last month on Sept 14th and being an ardent linguistic person, I felt obligated to celebrate the day for the love of Hindi. I chose twitter as it's the place where I get instant feedback and some intelligent conversation.
Few weeks before the event, I wondered whether #HindiDiwas too make it to the trending saga of hashtags on twitter. (It did not, Sigh!)
Nevertheless, with all the vague anticipations, I started tweeting. RTs & mentions kept flowing in and I found a sudden transition of Indians into regionalists, asking me to stop imposing Hindi 'on them'. The people I engaged and the outcome, to an extent was more negative than how I expected it to be. Well, it was out of my surprise, because I surely wasn't promoting Hindi but tweeting facts about Hindi language. All I meant was that Indians should respect Hindi which is the official language of India, but all I concluded is that an Indian prefers English over Hindi and if you dare to favor Hindi, the same person will start favoring different regional languages in India and bicker about Hindi. Though I still don't get the idea behind such a split thought-process. People can blurt out that Hindi isn't our national language, but have no idea that it's the official language of India. At one point my mind went to a state of disbelief and confusion that how to respond to them. Though I responded anyway because it's a social media practice that one should respond every conversation, provided the argument makes sense. (by fitting into 140 characters if its twitter.)
How can you be so proud to be an Indian if it sounds 'cute' or 'not-a-big-thing' to you when you fumble while speaking Hindi, but embarrassing if its English. When 41% of population in India speaks Hindi & those who understand it are more than 65%, why there isn't one language that can be learned, spoken and taught to every Indian just like other countries? Why can't Hindi be eligible for this (Or Sanskrit for that matter. No, it isn't funny). It's curiosity and curiosity is quite human. Anyways, if people can keep fighting over 'India' and "Bharat" we can surely see more such things peeking up.

Anyways, at the same time on twitter when I had having such confrontations coming by, I did get some positive feedback and appreciation too, across the country. I considered this as a success for all my endeavors.

PS: I love languages, be it Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Urdu,... French or Latin, and... I Love our India.

This time, I am here with a guest blog post on love. Interesting, ehh? Here the term memoir is being expressed in a subjective manner. Have a read and smile if you find it worth.

Here it goes:

At times, when they keep telling her to forget him and that the time will heal all the invisible wounds she has, she perplexes, nothing but just perplexes with a faded smile thinking...How can I?!.
She has made peace with it that the past would never make a comeback. The good old memories. She keeps on wondering that why is it just not happening, why is it so hard to safeguard her present by a haunting past?

OK, so she may forget him, but how would she forget that first feeling and that he was supposed to be her 'everything' for ever.
She is all ready to forget the talks but could she destroy the whole room where she sat to have those endless conversations till wee hours ending up missing her beauty sleep?
She is ready to forget that awkward rendezvous at an airport that still means a lot because she met him their for the first time, but could she just bomb down that airport so that she wouldn't have to fly from there, ever or without recalling their first meeting?
She can delete those heart-melting songs from her playlist but could she ever ignore the lyrics she accidentally comes across to?
She is ready to forget that candle-lit dinner she had, but could she quit going out for dinners with someone else at all?
She is ready to not think about him but what to do with memoirs that are engraved in all the places they had been at, all the days they spent, and those moments she learned from to become a better her?
How could she not visit those places again, living those dates every year, and reliving those moments every now and then?

Change is inevitable so it's all right that she keeps changing as the time passes by, and doesn't look or walk in her old self in public. But could she ever turn back to what she has  transformed into, from a girl-never-been-in-love into the girl-who-knows-love?
Questions come and go in her mind but what doesn't change is its permanent occurrence. Life is a weird beautiful case that has no solution but there's a dire need to accept what it is and will always be.

Working as an intern in some ad agency is far different then what I've ever imagined it to be. If you crave, there will be enormous work and if you don't, there won't be anything, except sitting, having a cuppa coffee in every two hours, having lunch at the right time and leaving office by the right time (of course just because of being an intern, I had some privileges otherwise I would have been totally....). Currently working on client pitching for a prospective client of the agency.
How funny advertising world is. Things you yourself are not convinced with is what you have to get other convinced and that too strongly to make them come back. Selling hope, imagination, expectation, prediction need and urge with loads of creativity is what advertising is...

Trrrinnnnnnnn...the sound woke me up around 5:30am (reminder that was kept on my mobile). Sitting by the window, I was in the bus. Droplets of rain were all over my face like one could have played “join the dots” game. Funny, no?
Ohh!!! By the way, haven’t mentioned where I was heading to.
Well, our whole batch was heading toward Goa. A merriment excursion after a jaded orientation programme. I had never been to Goa before; so, I was enjoying the journey ever since it started. It was so exciting and the reason was, I had never been anywhere alone (accompanied by my family member(s)) besides it's entirely a new place for me.
Anyway, apart from been morning sleepy and titillated with the shivering weather, I was so much enjoying the twists and turns the bus was taking on the narrow roads, appurtenance to that, rain made it more enjoyable. I was eagerly waiting for the bus to enter in Goa.
And when the bus entered in Goa, I started anticipating in a nutshell, what would be here which would make an impact on me, who just don't get impressed so easily. All the talks and bookish knowledge I've immersed in, had to prove itself.
But I was wrong, before reaching the final destination, as a keen observer, I saw the architecture, the beautiful bungalows and houses. That's what caught my attention. Hence sub-consciously or rather peculiarly, it unexpectedly became the joy of my trip. Earlier I had  been pretty sure of exploring beaches, nightclubs or the greenery in the rains, perhaps these are the first things someone would go for. Yes, I went to the beautiful beaches for first time, felt nature and greenery at its best. But the picture completely turned out to be different.
After the rain stopped, the sun arose shining. It was majestic to see illuminated rain-washed peaks of buildings and trees with golden aglow. That was a fine sparkling noon, I went for a short outing with friends to Aguada Fort (The famous 'Dil Chahta Hai' one), a historical place built in 1612 that was used as a watering station for the ships & a lighthouse from the same era. I love history & mystery so I ought to go there and like always been fascinated fascinated by its architecture and how it skirts the sea-shore. Though, I was somewhat disappointed that we were not allowed to go up the lighthouse. 
I so wish that our Government and archaeology department would always work to save the historical buildings which are slowly converting into ruins. After the fort-visit, it was nice to wander around the city. The architecture of the city in terms of size, symmetry and hues used for the shops, markets and even the restaurants, made me feel as if I am in an old English city. More like a blend of an old-modern English-Portuguese city. Even the resort where we stayed for the whole time, interior and exterior, were good. 
In Goa, the shops and restaurants use lights to decorate the name-board as well as the ambiance that beautifies the night even more. "Illuminate the dark."
Next day was for the beaches, I was expected to pay more attention to the sea and the scenic beauty. Of course I did, but then again I rather focused on the constructive part, built of the beach, shops scattered around and the establishments. Also more precisely, I focused on the sand (Really, sand?). I made a sandcastle out of the wet sand that fell off once it dried. I built it repeatedly it kept falling down after sometime (Wish there was some Binani cement, lol). Then I realised, the sun that made my sandcastle crumble would make it stay firm if the castle was of clay. And all of a sudden, I started thinking philosophically; life is also like this. Situations, either good or bad, are ultimately the situations which make us. It depends on us what we want to be, sand or clay, what choices we make. The way one chooses for life, determines the way ahead

Goa isn't just about beaches, lively night clubs and flashy parties. It holds a lot more. Hoping to get a few more days to explore more of it. Being in Goa for the first time in my life, exploring the best part, art and architecture of the place, won my heart and moreover, experiencing the beauty of nature so closely, far from the metro city life left me enlightened and philosophically content.
