A Long To-Experience list, just one life!

नमस्कार!  मैं हूँ टमाटर.  मुझे तो जानते ही होंगे? 

वही, जिसे आप आज कल कमा कर भी नही खा पा रहे हैं...  लोल!
आपकी सब्ज़ी, सलाद, और बस यूँ ही लोगों पर पड़ने वाली चीज़ हूँ.

अभी कुछ दिनों पहले से ही मेरे भाव कुछ बढ़ गये हैं. आख़िर क्यू ना बढ़े, अमाँ हमें भी बुरा लगता है, जब हमें ना तो ठीक से सब्जी की केटेगरी में रखा जाता है, ना फलों की.
और तो और हमारे जैसे ही लाल सेब हमसे इतना महेंगा है, तो हमे भी कोफ़्त होती है. फिर क़रीब एक दशक पहले, जब हमारे तामसिक मित्र प्याज़ ने अपने भाव आसमान को छू लिए, तब हमने भी एक कसम खा ली, एक दिन मौका देख के हम भी भाव बढ़ाएँगे.
बस फिर क्या, तबसे बाट जोह रहे थे. फाइनली मौका पा के हमने भी चौका मार ही दिया. अब भला क्रिकेट किसे नही पसंद? (माफ़ कीजिए ज़रा भावनाओं में बह जाते हैं हम कभी कभी!)

वैसे हर परिवर्तन के कुछ फायदे, कुछ नुकसान होते हैं. मगर इस परिवर्तन से तो बस नुकसान ही दिख रहा है. उदाहरण के लिए हमारे भाव बढ़ने की वजह से इंसान तो क्या हमारा खुद का परिवार मुझसे नाराज़ है. छोटा बेटा बोलता है की अब टॉमटीनो फेस्टिवल में कैसे जाएँगे. और तो और अब तो देश के लिए शहीद होने के लिए हम उन बेकार नेताओ पर भी नही मारे जा सकते हैं, क्यूँकि आपने हमारे भाव बड़ा रखें हैं.
आख़िर ऐसे कब तक चलेगा, हम कब तक बेरोज़गार पड़े रहेंगे.
चुटकी लेने के लिए मैने भी उन्हें कुछ मीम्स दिखाए. एक सुन्दर कन्या ने कानों में सोने की बालियों के स्थान पर हमें लटका रखा है. ये भी बताया की आज कल लोग एक दूसरे के घर जाते हैं तो मिठाई नही, २किलो हमें ही पैक करा ले जाते हैं. बताओ, इससे ज्यादा इज़्ज़त क्या मिलेगी?
बस तभी से घर में कोई हमसे बात ही नही कर रहा है.
आकस्मिक आपदायें जैसे की इस बार हुई अत्यधिक बारिश की वजह से मेरे कुनबे पर बड़ा अत्याचार हुआ, अमूमन आधे से ज़्यादा लोग मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुए और लगभग एक चौथाई लोगों ने घायल हो कर दम तोड़ दिया. बच गये हम. तो अब क्या व्यंग भी ना करें? तकलीफें इंसान को शायर बना देती हैं, हम तो बस कहानीकार बने बेठे हैं ज़रा सी आप बीती और कुछ नही. ऐसी वर्षा कभी नही देखी, नाना दादा के साथ भी कभी ऐसी अनहोनी नही घटी. और ये तो बस शुरुआत है. जिस तरह मानव जाति ग्लोबल वार्मिंग बड़ाने में जुटी हुई है, मेरी बड़ी हुई कीमत तो शायद अभी बहुत कम है.

अब मैं उन्हे और क्या जवाब दूं. क्या आप बता सकते हैं? शायद नही. मगर अब कुछ कह नही सकते तो कम से कम कुछ कर तो सकते हैं आप लोग की नही? ग्लोबल वार्मिंग को बढ़ने से बचाएँ, ग्लेशियर पिघल रहा है, धरती की जलवायु बदल रही है. थोड़ा योगदान आप भी दें. ए.सी. कम इस्तेमाल करें, बिजली-पानी बचाने की हर संभव कोशिश करें. अमाँ यार, कुछ तो करें. नही तो जैसे आज मेरा परिवार मुझसे मेरे बड़े हुए भाव का कारण पूछता है, आपका परिवार शायद ये सब जानने के लिए रहे ही ना. कुछ दशकों से ग्लोबल वार्मिंग तथा आकस्मिक जलवायु परिवर्तन की मार सह सह के मेरा छिलका भी मोटा हो गया है, नोटीस तो आप सबने किया ही होगा, अब आसानी से नही गलता मैं. मगर इंसान ने कारण समझने की कोशिश नही की. खरीदने वाले मेरा छिलका उतार के इस्तेमाल कर लेते हैं और बेचने वाले मुझे इन्जेक्शन लगा के बेवकूफ़ बना लेते हैं.

वैसे लगता है की शायद ये इंसान कभी नही सुधरेगा. चलता हूँ. कोशिश करूँगा की इस बार बारिश की मार सह पाऊँ.

On Doordarshan, Mirza Ghalib (Naseerudin Shah) hummed one of his shers. It was in Hindi and a sher, and you clearly need some level of maturity to understand the  meaning. So am not sure what I understood but I did remember the words cause I was 7 and at least quite good at remembering whatever I heard. I scribbled those line I remembered and reached my mom asking her to explain its meaning. She wasn't sure if I'd understand but she tried explaining it anyway. Since then I knew I'm going to like his work cause it was compelling enough to feed more to my curiosity.  Later I had my first introduction to Mirza Ghalib poetry in voice of the great Jagjit Singh. The liking towards his work grew stronger as the years went by as I found myself interested in shayari of all kinds. Although I don't understand Urdu much but I try to decipher the meaning every time I hear or read a sher. And in all those years, I never knew that Mirza Ghalib had a haveli in Delhi in Chandni Chowk until recently. I was re-watching the documentary and serials on him in my leisurely times. Post that I indulged myself into a little research & found out about the Haveli. I made up my mind that in spite of living in Delhi since I was born, I just can't miss visiting it. Incidentally, Mirza Ghalib's birth anniversary was also just a few days ahead, on 27th December. So my weekend was pretty much sorted to take a stroll about Chandni Chowk and not for the book shopping at Nayi Sarak Or the food trail around Paranthe Wali Gali Or to shop for ethnic clothes and accessories by default. This time it was to explore its historical side.

You want to see the real Delhi? Go Chandni Chowk, the Old Delhi, and you'll see how the capital of Delhi, oh-so-modern still has its heart residing at so many places lesser known in tidbits. I'd been there many a times, but never knew that in one of those confusing busy street crossings rests a monument that speaks of history of some of the worldly shers Mirza Ghalib had ever written, sitting on his cot at his humble abode. I couldn't be more excited to see the Haveli that was depicted in his biography and movies.
'Poochte hain woh ki Ghalib kaun hai!
Koi batlao ki hum batlayein kya?'

So finding my way through the narrow lanes of Ballimaran, there it was in Gali Qasim Jan since 300 years. Once all young and gay, now standing all sad looking for somebody to visit it once in a while. May be. And although his name never needed an introduction, his Haveli at Chandni Chowk did, and so on a different note, I thought of one of his sher, 
'Thi khabar garm ki ‘Ghalib’ ke udenge purje dekhne,
Ham bhi gaye the pa tamasha na hua'
I couldn't understand how I felt. I was expecting a big haveli but only a small portion was now left for visitors spanned across 100 sq ft. I believe.
Nevertheless, old and rustic, that place could fill you up with immense emotions.

Come out and on your left, a passage would walk you to a hall with columns showcasing the mughal architecture and Mirza's lifestyle. The ques of display shelves on the brick walls display the replicas of Ghalib's belongings and his virtuous work written all over the walls. Since it was his birth anniversary, an event was to happen in the evening in his honor which I couldn't attend. So I just stood there for a while just to feel how it would have been 300 years ago reminiscing scenes from Mirza Ghalib's documentary (directed by Gulzar, enacted by Naseerudin Shah). That was pretty much all there, but it felt awesome to stand at a place where he once lived and spent his last years and write such phenomenal diwans.

It's open except Mondays with no entry fee or photography charges. It's open to all public from Sunrise to Sunset. Nearest Metro Station: Chawri Bazar

Since I was in Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid was just a km away, I thought of checking it out. I preferred walking as it's faster than taking a riskhaw on a Saturday in the narrow busy streets of Chandni Chowk, and reached Jama Masjid around 1pm.

People, and more people all around. I quickly walked about to see its expansion. Truly, it's one of the largest mosques in India. Adorned with 4 Minars, I went up on one of the Minar from where one could see the sky-view of Delhi. Could have been glorious if it was evening with all the lights. Apparently it's not allowed to go up that late.
Note: Their is an entry fee if you want to go up on the Minar. Minus this, there's no photography/entry charges anywhere.



So, after checking out the huge chandelier inside the premise, the pond, and the highlight- city's sky view from the top of a Minar. I came and indulged myself into what Chandni Chowk's famous for- Food. Rabri-Jalebi & Chole bhature. Since that already made me full I just took a walk by the Paranthe vale gali.

It was a well spent sunny afternoon. While coming back I was just reminiscing this,
Hui muddatt ki marr gaya 'Ghalib', magar yaad aata hai, woh harr ek baat pe kehna yun hota to kya hota. 

 Next time you go to Chandni Chowk, do try and locate the Haveli. As apparently, 
Rahi na takat-e-guftaar, aur agar ho bhi to kis ummeed main (Ghalib) kahiye ki aarajoo kya hai.

It's been more than 8 years since I promised myself to pay a visit to the city of Amritsar. I always dreamt of taking a solo trip to Amritsar, but this one turned out much better with a companion who made it all possible. And in all those years, the excuses or reasons that didn't let me go there were bygone. We took the trip #LikeABoss, like an Instagram quote i.e. "Just pack your bag and leave". We shook our head at 7 in the evening, packed our bags, hailed for a bus and next morning we were there.
Although, it wasn't an easy-made trip. We reached at ISBT Kashmere Gate bus station around 9pm only to find out that everything was booked already. We [two girls] sitting with our hopes held tight started thinking whether to go back and re-plan this again for a later date. It was so disappointing at the moment as like once again, I was failing to get to see the city. But the heart wants what it want. So we sat in silence for a little longer, took a deep breath and started assessing the alternatives. We checked different routes like via Chandigarh etc. but nothing worked out. Soon it was past 11 of a cold night of December.
Finally we decided to try out our luck at Old Delhi Railway station before we were headed back home. After checking a few bus service desks, we got our tickets and we couldn't believe.
We left the city in much excitement on a fun bus ride.
It was cold and it rained all night and we were in the bus having goosebumps. My excitement couldn't be explained hence I couldn't sleep the whole night.It was like one of those things in your life that you've always wanted and once you get it in an unexpected way; the happiness is sheer priceless.

We reached Amritsar around 6ish in the morning. We hailed a rikshaw and went straight to Golden Temple.

With that 1D trip, we covered> The Golden Temple (at morning) > Breakfast at Brother's Dhaba>  Jalianwala Bagh > Lunch at Kesar Da Dhaba> a little walk around Hathi gate> Vagha Border> The Golden Temple (at night).

Stay:
We didn't book a hotel. We stayed at the Golden Temple Sarai (Guru Arjan Dev Nivas). And believe me, it was the wisest decision we made than booking a hotel. It's safe for girls, and that's important to know :) We inquired about the proceeding and they offered some delicious tea first with some snacks. Broiling in a huge kadhai at a distance, people all kind were enjoying their sips out of tea bowls that winter morning. We cleaned our cups ourselves (yes you must, especially when you see everyone there helping you with everything, that's the least you could do to help them back). Later, we got a token at the reception to stay in the Sarai. It's free of cost. We went up on the first floor, where women could stay. It's a shared place with lockers where you can keep you belongings locked till whenever. Common Washrooms, basins and toilets; separate for women and kids, and men. I couldn't help but wonder, this was the first time I saw a Sarai, that puts no cost at you, are so clean. People were so thoughtful that they made sure they left it clean after using even the kids weren't ignorant.
So if it's only travel you want and not comfortable beds and privacy, stay here without having a second thought. Spending the night could be cumbersome as there are halls, varandahs and passage & you'd get to sleep wherever you can find the place to.


Explore 
The Golden Temple
With a lot of history and divinity, Shri Harmandir Sahib stands bright and modest amidst the pool of Nector. Taking a walk around the temple and finally visiting the main temple overwhelmed us with joy and pride. There's lot to add which I would cover in a different blog post.
Tip: If possible, do try visiting the place both in morning and evening and you'll be amused by its mesmerizing beauty. (About 150mts far from the sarai)

Jalianwala  Bagh
The misty wind embraced us the very moment we entered in the Jalianwala Bagh through the alley from where Dyer's troop entered & killed thousands of defenseless people almost a century back. Goosebumps. A memorial of national importance ever since the dreadful Amritsar Massacre occurred in 1919,  the Bagh also homes a museum that speaks of its history, the innocent martyrs and how the unfortunate event played an important role in India's struggle for freedom that should be enough to bring tears in your eyes and put your blood on boil. A well on the left, where people jumped in out of panic and 'the Wall' with the marks of gun shots still visible are there too echoing the deafening silence persisting since ages.

Walking around the City
You can still buy in an hour our of your 1D trip to walk around the city and explore, provided you're always on the go. Shop. Eat. Experience. Learn.

Wagha Border
About 30 kms from Amritsar and 20kms from Lahor is the border of Wagha. You can easily reach there via shared cabs available outside the JalianWala Bhagh. Make sure, you leave before 2pm anyhow cause you don't want to miss the Wagha Border ceremony scheduled everyday @4pm in winter and @4:30pm in summer). It would cost you around INR 100-200 per person (to and fro) and will take about 2 hours to take you there. It will leave you about 500-600 mts before the actual destination. From there you can take a rickshaw or walk your way through. The cab would wait for you at the same spot till you'd be back.
The ceremony takes place every evening, in which soldiers from India and Pakistan meet and greet each other and perform the usual ceremonial activities. When the gate finally opens, that moment is enough to send a chill under one's spine. (We Indians know how it feels, right?)
Do Not carry bags, heavy wallets, power banks or any such electronic devices. Only money, phones and cameras are allowed. There are two strict security checks. Suggest you inquire about it from different sources as well.

Food
About a km away from the sarai, Brother's Dhaba or Bharawan da Dhaba situated next to each other, pick any cause you won't regret. The food is inexplicably delicious across the city. Food so good and rich, I confess that I had the best north Indian food ever in Amritsar. However, keep a hygiene check while eating out at the street.
Must visit- Kesar Da Dhaba. While usual options for main course are good to satiate your hunger with oodles of Desi Ghee, don't miss trying their Rice Phirni and a humongous glass of Lassi (which you may want to share it with 1-2 people :D). We two were crazy enough to order two glasses and we couldn't finish.
Near Bangla Sahib, on the temple road and opposite Jalianwala Bagh, you would also find street vendors selling Daal Pakoda dipped in Kanji. That was quite something to experiment with my taste buds and it wasn't bad, I must say. Do try.

There are many more places in and around the city which you just can't cover in just one day, but we did pretty well :) (from 6am-9pm)

Do note, Amritsar is a pretty, colorful city with cultural and traditional values like any other city in India. A city so humble that welcomes everyone with a warm heart. Hence a sincere request to every new person entering to the city to be mindful of their behavior and appearance to avoid unnecessary attention and make the most out of your trip.

So you are in your 30's and till now you were fine being single with no notion to settle down like ever?Then comes a day when a girl just happens to you out of nowhere. Yes, you were not looking for a relationship but she turned your world upside down and you are just loving it. Though, you wonder how did it happen especially when you were enjoying your single-hood, busy buying crazy stuffs like that telescope on auction or n number of headphones for no reason, spending money with no thoughts of saving any for future and converting your room in a small zoo by having variety of pets like dogs, aquarium and a parrot. And yes, not ready to change yourself for anybody.
But now, you want to change yourself. You are planning to expand your house. Looking at couples makes you want to reach her and claim her yours. And kids, Oh my god, you are witnessing too much cuteness showering from those little creatures playing in a nearby park. Settling down which was never on your list, seemingly you are ready for it.Well not to forget, lately you have been day-dreaming of having a baby girl with the girl you're in love with.
Hang on! Are you really sure that she is the one or you are just imprisoned of an emotional breakthrough. Changing yourself seems fine to you now, but don't rush to settle down before you do a little fact-check and these reasons may fall true for you.

• Marry her cause she isn't a goddess, she is a diva who lives on her own terms and respects yours too. Comfort zone or space bubble you both have talked it through and are ready to offer unasked space to each other.
• Marry her cause she is philosophically challenged and made of tough reality. "Never change yourself for anybody", seems no true to you guys anymore. Change is inevitable. You are changing yourself a bit and she too compromises whenever need be.
• Marry her if she is totally okay with you falling asleep while your are on Skype with her. How many hours? Doesn't really count. She is happy to be with you all the while you are sleeping and may eventually fall asleep too.
• Marry her if she is the one who asks you to checkout random girls in a mall. She pinches you and point out the girls who ogle at you and giggle. You know that moment you fall for her all over again.

So it's time! Bid adieu to #Orkut as Google has announced that their Once-The-Most-Popular social media platform shall go extinct from September 30th, 2014. Yes, the vary social media platform that  once let our hearts pound and broken online ;)

Writer's note: Before Facebook invaded our lives, Orkut was a place to be. In the the times of cyber cafes when knowing how to use internet was a matter of pride, Orkut was a forbidden fruit that everybody wanted to taste and if once tasted, they just couldn't get its taste off their mouth. Those were the days when people sat in cyber cafes and were costed quite a lot for just a few minutes to check their scraps. You could see the A4 size printouts on their walls displaying the rates one needed to pay for different Orkut activities for a stipulated time. Scraps, photo albums, favorites, fans, friend list, communities, messages, everything was bewitching. More the numbers, prouder the person used to be. The madness was overwhelming, if you were members to a few communities which were so lively back then. It would make you forget the time you've spent.
Remember testimonials? One thing that was a craze. Having highest number of scraps was like a race we all wanted to win. Calling up friends just to make them write testimonial(s) following the barter system :'D. I think for us, the 80's kids, first encounter to the internet world was about myspace and Orkut, and so was the first introduction to social media. Through Orkut started the "will you fraandship with me" era which continued with Facebook and further. Nevertheless Baap baap tha!

A friend asked me to name one of my passion and hobbies. For a moment I was clueless.
I never thought that way to categorize my liking and subconsciously I thought why haven’t I, still?

Like always I questioned him back to state the difference between a passion and a hobby. He simply answered that perhaps eating is your habit but cooking could be your passion. I was like "What!" but confused him instead. Then we started arguing [admit that we actually love to argue at some point with our close buddy(ies)] and eventually somebody let someone win :p

Afterwards I asked many minds and brains to differentiate the terms and incurred few replies. I came out to this.

Passion is something you are crazy about, a rage that totally freaks you, and makes you suffocate if you think of quitting. An extreme case where you have all the ways and lanes to conform.

You can write on something? Might be your hobby; you can write on almost anything? Indeed writing is your passion. Hobby reflects you but a passion reflexes you.

Hobby grows, it increases but passion is a born attitude towards something. A hobby is not difficult to pursue if you get enough time for it. More over to an extent if you willingly take out some time to practice and improvise, it may become your passion. Sometimes, it takes a lot of time to recognize your passion irrespective of you being naturally attracted towards it.

I am ending up concluding that I do not have a passion, though having a few hobbies to pursue forever but not a single one that I feel crazy about. Perhaps a little maniac over dance and painting, still passion? Indeed it is yet to recognize ;)

It's been quite long since I penned down my wandering thoughts. Not that I didn't have anything on my mind or seeking any topic I can write upon. Actually the issue was (and is always) that I had been rambling into many thoughts.

Best part I tell you, thoughts come into your mind only the time when you are not carrying a pen and a piece of paper. You promise yourself that the moment you sit down, you'd write whatever comes to your mind. You trying doing that and  Bam! you're rather a better thinker than a writer, aren't you? You just run out of right words and start to feel that your thoughts aren't even worth writing down:p

Last evening, while wandering back home and thinking what could spark me to write something,this vary topic dawned upon me! Why don’t I try writing the psychology of a writer? Let’s peep in to their mind ;) so comes this blogpost with thoughts that ran into my mind.

Sure, we all find ourselves caught in situations where at some point or the other we scribble something, we crush the paper, throw it in a dustbin (Or recycle bin), force our self to think more, take references, and in the end write it any way to finally get the task done. (Be it holiday homework or love notes, believe me I have seen many such people who always seek their beloved writer friends for love notes*.)

But when it comes to writers, it's little different. You aren't like everyone else. Initially, it's all the same. You write something you like, you re-read it; you feel how disgusting it has turned out, then comes the difference! You keep it safe somewhere and just couldn't throw it away. Because, you're a writer. You just don’t tear it off or press Ctrl+Shift+Delete.
Reason is pretty literal :p Every piece that you write is like a fruit of your labor, besides it’s a tested fact that more you write, more it gets better. You won't get tired of writing anything (after all what's more sensible then talking ;)

Another difference! Ask somebody to write on a given topic. Max they would do is to end up writing nothing at all. Now talk about the writers, give them any topic, they’d take some time to think and sip in their coffee, to trip over their own feet and slams in to a wall, or to stay alone for penning down.They would loose the track, but eventually come back to the topic. No matter what, they would surely finish the writing.
